30th January 2020: A tribute to the vibrant love journey…
No race, religion, status, family nor financial background divided them. Kanna… judged by unfortunate past mishaps. Bhavani… marred by an illusional past ‘marriage’. It’s just that, passed… Making this decision to tie a knot in their 30s, they were unfairly judged and shrewdly criticised. Criticised because Kanna is three years younger. Criticised because Bhavani was once married. The court annulled her first marriage because it’s INVALID, but the taboo remained in their society. It was against their ”social norm”. The fact that both came from well respected and affluential families, didn’t help either. They didn’t see Bhavani like how he did, for who she really is. This journey was not just between two individuals. It was a journey to get two orthodox families at opposing ends to move in the same direction. In an era where age is just a number, it wasn’t so for Kanna & Bhavani when it came to convincing their families. They explained and argued. Emotions ran high, angers flared, tears flowed but they never gave up on each other. Space for explanation wasn’t provided. Willingness to listen wasn’t obtained. Two way communicative measures was neither allowed to be applied too…. Families held on strong to their own values, preferences and judgements. The couple tried and tried to the point of being tired. Duly carrying out their respective responsibilities all along.
Time, as always, passed. Six years on…They stood by their decision and held on to the rights to choose their life partner, while patiently waiting for the families’ blessings. It finally came from the MAN who mattered most to Bhavani, DAD. Leader of the family, initially opposed to this union, he was torn between conforming the family traditions and wishes of his precious baby girl. After so much contention, he put Bhavani’s happiness above all, and gave his blessings. ONE, that made all this wait and struggle worth while. The wedding itself was planned only in a matter of weeks. No wedding cards, no customary door to door invites. Invitations were sent out as e-cards and via phone calls. While some ignored the entire involvement, many voluntarily helped out. Blessed were the couples for the abundance of support and courage. Those who came, value the importance of their presence and blessings for the struggle that the couple went through. 30th January 2020….Kanna kept to his promise to stand by her always. Despite the absence of his loved ones, he took Bhavani’s hands in holy marriage. This is a new path and they shall continue to spread the love and joy. Indeed, “A vibrant love journey”.
